Marian families interested in hosting an international student for a two week period in October are asked to contact Etta Stadtmiller of TILESA USA at 574-231-0358. This group of students from a Catholic school in Barcelona, Spain will be attending classes at Marian for two weeks in early October 2010.

Sept. 7 - Could you use a little more drama in your life? Well, the Marian Drama Department would like to Help! Information for auditions for the Marian Drama fall play “God’s Favorite” will be available immediately after school tomorrow at 2:30 in the Band Room. This isn’t a meeting; just stop by and grab the audition packet and ask any questions, then you’re ready to go! Actual auditions will be Tuesday, September 14th, after school. All are invited.

Attention Outstanding Seniors: It is time to nominate a Wells Scholar for IU Bloomington. If you are interested in being nominated for this merit based scholarship, please see Mrs. Talos in the guidance office.

The SAT will be given at Marian on Saturday, October 9th. The Regular registration deadline for this test is September 10th. The Late registration deadline is September 24th. Make sure you register by September 10th so you don’t have to pay late fees.

Seniors: IUSB will be doing onsite admissions here at Marian on Tuesday, Sept. 28th. The application fee will be waived on this day and $500.00 scholarships will be given out. If you are planning to apply at IUSB or just thinking about it, sign up to do it here at Marian for free! See Mrs. Talos in Guidance to get an appointment time.

Representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will be in South Bend on Monday, September 20th at the Hilton Garden Inn on Route 933. Their informational program starts at 7:30 p.m. Contact the Guidance Office for more information.

Attention all German Club members, all T-shirt designs must be submitted by tomorrow. There will be a meeting Thursday, Sept. 9th at 7:30 a.m. to vote on the winning design. Entries can be turned into Frau, C Dittrich, L Henry, M Williams or K Koch.

NHS Candidates: There will be a meeting today, Sept. 7th in the cafeteria from 3:15 – 4:00. Please be on time and bring a pen to the meeting. As was stated in the letter you received last week, this meeting or Thursday’s meeting is required to continue your NHS membership selection.

The next meeting of the Environmental Club will be Thursday at 3:05 p.m. in Room 241. All are welcomed. Please make arrangements to attend if you would like to participate this year. The Biotope Group will also meet at this time.

Next Right to Life meeting is tomorrow, Wednesday at 7:30 in Room 221. New members are welcome!!

We will celebrate our pride and spirit with a taco bar from Taco Bell, drinks and a variety of appetizers and desserts. There is no charge to attend, however we ask that you bring a dish to share. Also, to help demonstrate your school spirit, silver and blue pom poms will be available for $1.00/pair and “thundersticks” for $2.00/pair. Let’s jump on the bandwagon and show Penn how we cheer our Knights to victory!

There will be a Boys Swimming meeting for a few minutes after school today in the home ec. Room. It will start at 3:05, all interested please stop in.

Attention All Students Going on the Stratford Trip: Remember you must be in the South parking lot tomorrow at 5 a.m. for bag check and show your passport before you board the bus. The weather forecast for Stratford appears colder than we had anticipated so remember to bring a jacket and umbrella. See you tomorrow at 5 a.m.

Due to early dismissal, the tutor room will be open today from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Tomorrow is the first Friday of the month and the 7:20 a.m. Mass will be sponsored by the Marian Right to Life. Please join us as we pray for the protection of all human life!

Reminder – The International Students are meeting in the cafeteria, today 2nd hour, with Mrs. Dance and Mrs. Cook. If you are having a test, quiz, or review please remain in class and join us next Thursday.

The September Student Council meeting is this Thursday during 1st hour in Room 222. Officers, please inform your first hour teacher of this meeting. You are responsible to complete any missed work. If you have a quiz or test 1st hour, then you are not to come to the meeting.

From Coach Glon: All offensive players will need to go to Coach Killilea’s Room #116 during lunch for film.

Anyone interested in attending the United States Air Force Academy is invited to attend an orientation meeting this evening at the Eck Visitor’s Center at Notre Dame. Representatives from the Academy and Congressman Donnelly’s Nomination Committee will be available from 7 – 9 p.m. to answer any questions.

Aug. 31 - The NHS Executive Committee will have its 1st meeting of the year today, August 31st, at 3:15 p.m. in Mr. Piechnik’s room, 219. The NHS membership will have its First meeting of the year Wednesday, Sept. 1st at 3:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. All members are required to attend.

There will be a mandatory Science Olympiad meeting today after school in Mr. A.’s room. If you cannot attend please see Mr. A. or L Garatoni.

The “D-Squad”, Marian’s diversity coalition, will have its first meeting today, August 31st after school. Come be a part by helping to plan events and projects which will bring greater awareness and appreciation of diversity to the Marian Community

Attention Varsity and swing girls soccer players, there is a treat for you to pick up in the office, so please don’t forget.

Girls Soccer plays Penn tonight, JV at 5:00 p.m. and Varsity at 7:00 p.m. at Marian’s ABRO Field.

Volleyball plays Niles tonight with the Freshman playing at 5:00 p.m., JV at 6, and Varsity about 7 p.m. here at home.

Boys JV Tennis will take on Penn, at Penn today at 4:30 p.m.

The Marian Poms will hold tryouts today, from 3:30 – 4:30 or 6 – 7:10 p.m.

Liturgical choir will have its 1st rehearsal , today after school, from 3 – 4 p.m. in the choir room.

The Marian JV football team beat Riley by a score of 19 to 8 this weekend. Scoring for the Knights were V Ravotto, who threw a 65 yard touchdown pass to P Hunsberger. V Ravotto and J Walter both rushed for touchdowns. M Hammond and T Nixon both had interceptions.

The deadline for dropping a class and adding a study hall is today. You need to fill out a course change request form and see Mr. Thompson by 3:00.

The Marian Poms will hold tryouts on Monday, August 30th, from 3:30 – 4:30 or from 6 – 7:10. Interested dancers should come to the BCAC foyer ready to dance!

For all students interested in Junior ROTC, there will be a meeting Monday morning at 7:30 in room 138.

The freshman football team played tough last night, down two times they came back to beat the Mishawaka Cavemen 28 to 12 in their first game as Knights.

We will have corn hole, ladder golf, and a refreshment table. Appropriate, modest attire is expected, no tank tops. All Student Council and Class Officers are required to attend.
