History of Marian High School

On Tuesday, September 4, 1964, Marian High School started classes at 8:40 am, marking the beginning of Catholic secondary education in Mishawaka. Under the direction of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend, over two years of planning and construction of the now 72 acre campus took place before the front doors were opened to the first freshman class of 131 boys and 108 girls. Twelve faculty members comprised the first teaching staff.

Since opening its doors nearly 60 years ago, Marian’s dedicated faculty and staff have served over 9000 students from Mishawaka, South Bend, Granger, Goshen, Elkhart, Plymouth, and more. Our current enrollment has grown from that first class of 239 to over 730 students, and our faculty and staff has grown to over 100.
